Estonian Environmental Indicators 2009

Editors: Kait Antso, Karmen Kaukver
Year of publication: 2010
Pages: 74

Estonian Environmental Indicators 2009 is a publication that provides an overview of the state of Estonia’s environment. Environmental indicators are used to describe the status of the environment. Although this edition is a summary of the book Estonian Environmental Review 2009, the indicators reflecting the state of the environment were selected in such a manner as to be comparable with the core set of indicators developed by the European Environment Agency and the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). For this reason, Estonian Environmental Indicators 2009 also contains time series not found in Estonian Environmental Review 2009.

The topics covered in this publication are forestry, fisheries, natural resources, climate, air and water quality, wildlife, waste, the environment and health, and land use. As Estonia’s environment is impacted to a significant degree by the energy and transport sector, indicators for these fields are also covered in the publication. This environmental-indicator-based publication is designed above all for use by decision-makers. For each primary environmental topic, the book lists the strategic objective, time series, analysis and assessment.
